The history of the city of Tolleson can be traced way back in time to the ancient Hohokam Indians. The Hohokam Indians once inhabited the area that is now Tolleson. These early settlements date back to the 14th century.  However, it wasnt until 1912 before the area started to grow. It was in this year that W.G. Tolleson arrived and the town received its name. W.G. Tolleson built a ranch and later enticed people from Phoenix to come out and purchase land. Today, the town remains a close-knit community. 

Tolleson Location Tolleson is a small town covering about six square miles. It is a self contained community located approximately 10 miles west of downtown Phoenix in the West Valley. Spectacular mountains to the south with views of both the Sierra Estrella Mountains and South Mountain make living in Tolleson the perfect choice. Tolleson is in Central Arizona . It is in Maricopa County Maricopa County. The town is located 11 miles west of Phoenix in the West Valley. It covers 6 square miles. Tolleson lures many manufacturing and distribution businesses, due to its location along Interstate 10. Tolleson also has a solid agriculture area. Today the town has a population of 5,000. It sits at an elevation of 1,016 feet. Tolleson has a warm sunny climate with a summer high Temperature of 104 and a winter low Temperature of 38 degrees.

Tolleson is a self-contained community. It is a town that once relied on its agriculture and today it has a strong commercial and industrial base. One great attraction in Tolleson that you won't want to miss is Crow's Dairy Farm. This is a terrific place to take young children. The farm has a small petting zoo and a hayride around the farm. A tour of the farm will reveal many interesting facts about the workings of a dairy. Winslow History: In the early 1900's , a stagecoach station named Ten Mile Store was located in the area that is now Tolleson. But it wasn't until, W.G. Tolleson from South Carolina bought the land that the town received its name and many new homeowners. Tolleson purchased the land and built a ranch in 1910.  Then in 1915, Tolleson enticed individuals from Phoenix to come out and see the land. He chartered a train for a one-day promotional land sale.

The sale produced 80 sold lots at $50.00 a piece. Tolleson did throw in a $5.00 gold piece as a rebate for those who made a land purchase. Since then, the town was incorporated in 1929 and has remained a close-knit community. There are many single-family new homes, which share in the small town feeling that Tolleson represents.
