Prescott is in Northern Arizona . It is in Yavapai County and is the county seat. The town lies in central Arizona surrounded by the Prescott National Forest. You can get to Prescott from Phoenix and Tucson by taking Interstate 17 north out of town. Continue to travel north until you come to Cordes Junction, past Black Canyon City. Here you will take State Highway 69 west to Prescott, just past Prescott Valley. Prescott is 96 miles from Phoenix. If you are coming from Flagstaff, take Interstate 17 south to the 278 exit, right after Camp Verde. Then take State Highway 169 west to the town of Dewey and then continue on State Highway 69 into Prescott. Prescott is 90 miles from Flagstaff.Today Prescott's population is 30,387. The town sits at an elevation of 5,347 feet. The climate in Prescott is mild. Its summers are delightful, warm in the daytime and cool at night. The winter low is 23 degrees and the summer highs are 87 degrees. Prescott receives approximately 21 inches of snowfall each year and 19 inches of rain. The winters are mild, with just enough snow to create picture postcard scenes on the pine-clad slopes. Prescott has long been called "The Mile High City".

The outdoor activities are plentiful near Prescott. The Granite Mountain Wilderness is filled with hiking trails. One of the best trails near town is the Thumb Butte Trail. This trail offers tremendous views of the area, especially Prescott. The Granite Dells are unique rock formations just outside of town. These formations are great for rock climbers and scenic place to admire nature's beauty.
