Huachuca City was incorporated in 1958. The town's economy closely reflects the United States Army's Fort Huachuca located several miles south of town on State Highway 90. The fort is the headquarters for the Army's Information Systems Command, Intelligence Center and School, Electronic Proving Ground and Communications Electronic Installation Agency.
Due to the town's location, residential construction and retirement living has increased in recent years. The proximity to the border and other major towns makes rural living easy. A draw for new home businesses to Huachuca City is the abundance of undeveloped land, which includes city utilities.
