Superstition Mountain is a comfortable and upscale residential neighborhood located in the lush desert landscapes of Gold Canyon, Arizona. It sits about 46 miles to the east of Phoenix. Superstition Mountain as a community came into existence in 1997 when the first of the elegant Tuscany-inspired single-family and attached homes were built here. Construction on new homes continued until as recently as 2020. Life in Superstition Mountain is designed to be comfortable, accommodating and socially engaged. Much of life revolves around the community’s 36-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course. Residents of the neighborhood can enjoy playing rounds of golf year-round thanks to the area’s mild and agreeable weather.

The community is not so remotely located that it is far away from local amenities and services. In fact, residents of Superstition Mountain are just minutes away from world-class dining, shopping and entertainment venues found in nearby Phoenix.

Homeowners also enjoy the utmost in comfort and style in the spacious designs that hallmark many of the homes for sale here. In fact, the typical home for sale in Superstition Mountain sells for around $610,000. However, the asking prices for houses in the community can range from $505,000 to more than $3.8 million.

Further, the homes can range in size from 2000 to more than 22,000 square feet of living space. The average price breaks down to around $283 per square foot.

Many of the homes for sale in Superstition Mountain have anywhere from two to 10 bedrooms. Some homes can also have as many as 14 bathrooms.

The HOA consists of an elected board of members, which includes nine people who live and own homes in the community itself. All homeowners are members of the HOA. They pay dues that average between $500 and $600 per quarter for their memberships.

However, the elected board of members are the ones who meet regularly to discuss what issues need to be addressed directly in the community. The HOA partners with an onsite management company to decide how to use the dues that it collects from homeowners. It most often uses these dues to pay for upkeep and repairs to shared community amenities, as well as infrastructures like sidewalks and fences.

The HOA also ensures the safety of the community by employing a community patrol to man the gates that guard the community. The patrol also monitors the safety and operation of Superstition Mountain. It guards people’s properties and keeps track of visitors who come and go from the community.

The amenities that the HOA offers to all homeowners are designed to enhance their enjoyment, relaxation, and social engagement. The prime amenity is Superstition Mountain’s own golf course, which is designed by famous golfer Jack Nicklaus. There are actually two courses available to players, the Prospector and the Lost Gold. They offer a total of 36 holes and include features like lush, secluded greens to enhance the playing experience.

The Superstition Golf Course also has several restaurants onsite for members’ enjoyment. These restaurants offer both casual and fine dining fare. They also hold dinners throughout the year for special occasions, such as Valentine’s Day, for members.

The restaurants in the golf club host meetings for community clubs, such as those for:

  • Bocce ball
  • Social mixers
  • Games
  • Bridge
  • Mahjong
  • Arts and crafts

Guest speakers are routinely invited to the club to give talks on special interest topics like cars, coffee and wine tasting, cooking, and trivia.

Other amenities found in Superstition Mountain includes a 50,000-square foot community center with:

  • A fitness center
  • Two swimming pools
  • Basketball and tennis courts
  • A children’s play area

The clubhouse also has multipurpose exercise rooms.

Finally, the Apache Junction Unified School District serves the community of Superstition Mountain. Families who live there can send their children to nearby public schools like Peralta Trail Elementary School, Cactus Canyon Junior High School, and Apache Junction High School.

The Apache Junction Unified School District receives respectable marks for the quality of teaching and education that it offers to its students. In fact, it receives a national grade of A for diversity and B for the quality of its teachers and college preparation programs.

Out of the state of Arizona’s 115 school districts, the Apache Unified School District ranks as the 60th best overall. It is the 51st most diverse public school district in the state.

It likewise has an enrollment of just over 3400 students. This small student body gives the district a student-to-teacher ratio of 21 students per one teacher.

Out of the 3400-plus students who attend the Apache Unified School District, 85 percent go on to graduate from high school, which is on par with the national graduation rate. The average ACT test score is 22, above the national 20.6 ACT test score average. About one-third of the district’s students also meet proficiency standards in mathematics and reading.
