SUN CITY by Del Webb

Sun City is alive and this golden treasure of retirement city continues to thrive!

Way back in the old days Sun City was dreamed about, talked about, master-planned then actually built as a special retirement community.  Established and built by the Del Webb Corp., it remains the champ of retirement areas and it is still the largest retirement community in this or any other nation.

It got its start in January 1960 when it opened its doors to the tens of scores who found they could afford what Sun City had.  This place is grand, it is famous all over the world for its active-adult entertainment and retirement lifestyle and it’s fair to say that they raised the bar as the standard for other retirement communities who would flock to the area with their offerings.   You can’t move in unless you can demonstrate the maturity shared by your neighbors.  No young boys and girls running about making noise and upsetting your applecart.  Just mature adults seeking to live out their remaining days in peace and quiet.  The community is age-restricted with the requirement of one resident must be at least 55 years of age and no permanent resident under the age of 19 so that teeny-boppers need not apply!

Sun City is all by itself, a little self-contained world with its own shopping centers and restaurants offering you a wide variety of stores and services.  And best of all, you don’t have to deal with all the “hustle and bustle” of life on the outside  Security, street repair, zoning protection and many other key community services are provided publicly by Maricopa County since this community is actually unincorporated at present and relies upon the county essential guidance and services.  But think about it, what better protection could you ask for than the police?  And who better to plan what will happen to the community in the future than duly elected public officials who are sworn to uphold your trust!  Fire protection is provided by the Sun City Fire District.

Now to the good stuff!  Eleven golf courses, including three country clubs, and seven recreation centers in Sun City bless this retirement haven with swimming, tennis, bowling and countless other activities.  Believe it or not there is some water that can be found in what is naturally an arid desert climate! The Lakeview Recreation Center even has a lake for fishing and limited boating.

Volunteers are a mainstay in Sun City and the community is known as the “City of Volunteers.”  This means you get the best for less.  No disinterested high-profile but unresponsive elected officials meddling in your menial day-to-day affairs.  In this area it is probably in your best interest to have your neighbors, people just like yourself, deciding what you can and cannot do on an ordinary basis.

Take the Sun City PRIDES for instance.  It is a non-profit corporation which assists Maricopa County in keeping Sun City clean.  The organization mobilizes the gathering of time and money to keep your area clean.  A mechanism like this is so important today; because if you don’t do it- who will?

Security is always number one.  No body wants to ever have to face the threat of burglary or robbery on their own and it is of vital importance that paid professional who are aware of the problems in the area and who are trained to deal with the problems in these areas be ready, willing, and able to do what it is they have to do.

No doubt about it!  Police protection is provided by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, along with the members of the Sheriff’s Posse of Sun City.  You posse is a group of dedicated and motivated men and women from your very own community who volunteer their services 24 hours a day.   This means that your first ring of protection is as close as a phone call to a neighbor away! The Posse’s primary objective is to prevent crime through neighborhood patrols.  They get together and schedule patrols and that is how they do it.

A number of civic organizations, too numerous to mention here, have generously offered to assume the responsibility of keeping an eye over issues that affect the community.  Just take a look at the list that follows and you’ll see more reasons why Sun City is YOUR place to be!

The Recreation Centers of Sun City, Inc., a private corporation, is responsible for recreational amenities in Sun City; the Sun City Home Owners Association works with county and state agencies on such issues as zoning and transportation; the Sun City Taxpayers Association keeps a close watch on such issues as taxes and utility rates.  The Sun City Visitors Center at 99th Avenue and Bell Road, which offers prospective residents brochures and other helpful information, is operated by the Sun City Ambassadors, a non-profit corporation made up of volunteers.

Arizona Traditions

Your Neighborhood Community Will Want To Call You Home

If you are in the shadows of the White Tank Mountains then you are in Traditions.  Traditions is a golf and country club community built by the highly respected Continental Homes construction group.  In fact, you will be surprised to learn that Traditions is built on property that has been used for three of the most important industries in Arizona’s history.  Even if you are not from Arizona you probably have a pretty good idea of what at least some of these industries are.  Think about it, Arizona is in the middle of land cleverly reclaimed from barren desert land.  There is water, but not a lot; so that there can be growing- but in selected areas carefully created for this purpose.  O.K., what were your guesses?  Well the answers are:  ranching, agriculture, and water delivery.   This may not be the order, because these things can change over time but they are still important industries in Ariizona, know as the Copper State for all the copper mining that was, and still is, done here.  And tourism is a big reason for the state’s wealth, too.  But those are the answers.

This history is evident the moment you drive into this community.   Just look at the wonderful golf clubhouse made to look just like a local cotton gin.  Also take a look at the golf splendid course with its old fashioned designed that lets you reel in those years gone by with all their faded glory.

Then there’s your own grand ballroom located at the community center would rival many of the dance halls of the misty past- you can just hear that band playing and see the people dancing their evenings away!

If you really like golf a lot then you will just love the par-70 golf course that they have.  Dick Bailey designed golf course with its gently rolling terrain and lovely pine trees lining the fairways to be as fun to walk as to play.  The course was designed in the traditional parkland style of older courses where fairways are adjacent to each other instead of having homes on both sides.  When you’re done you can fill-up and chat golf in the splendid and spacious clubhouse.  They not only feature a full service wet bar, they serve some wonderful dishes their as well.  So to relax with a cold refreshment or food from the outdoor grill you must include a visit to the clubhouse in your golfing adventures.   And there are special advantages to Tradition residents.  You have an edge over everybody else because Arizona Traditions residents are offered discounted golf fees and have a minimum of one-day priority for tee time reservations over members of the general public.

But golf isn’t all that you can do at Traditions and there are a number of other activities to choose from.  A couple of sets of tennis, anyone?  Then there’s the leisure and excitement of horseshoes, and pickleball- if you have the steady nerves and solid skill that it takes!.

The private community center, with over 24,000 square feet of fun and entertainment – all under one large roof, offers residents a wealth of social, educational, and athletic activities.  There is a full time certified activities director and qualified professional training staff to assist you in subtle arts of woodworking, ceramics, sewing, stained glass painting, cooking, dancing, and even a series of computer classes.

And that’s not the half of it because you will also find a library, classroom, ballroom, card and social room, locker rooms, pool, spa, steam rooms, and tennis courts.  There are regularly held activities staged in that grand ballroom.  There is probably no better way to meet neighbors and make friends than to go to these events.   You can also spend your time relaxing by the new swimming pool.  Another great place to spend your free time is or meeting friends in the exciting and well staffed and appointed sports bar to watch your favorite sporting events on the large screen television they have there.

For the fitness buffs Arizona Traditions also offers the only fitness center sponsored by the Arizona Heart Institute.  The facility sports the best fitness equipment and professionally staffed training programs to be found in the area.    There are gatherings held throughout the year here where clinical doctors, certified and experienced nutritionists and other health and welfare speakers offer special programs, seminars, and even an annual health fair, so that residents know what to do to keep their motors running strong today and in the future.

Continental Homes offers flexible floor plans with such features as whirlpool tubs, built-in television alcoves, hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings and granite countertops.  There are 10 different floor plans for you to decide on ranging in price from $190s to the $280s.

Other additions include an expanded design center and seven serene water features, which promote a calming and restful.  Arizona Traditions people are friendly people. You should join them and be a Traditions person, too!
