Old Tucson Studios is a great place to experience the West. During your visit to Old Tucson Studios, you will be taken back in time to life in a frontier town. Old Tucson Studios began in 1939, with the movie ” Arizona “. Columbia Pictures wanted the movie to look realistic and this required an old western set to be designed and built.

The land outside of Tucson near the Saguaro National Monument was the perfect place to develop the 1860’s western set. After the movie, the set became a popular location for other movies and T.V. shows. In time, the spot was named “Old Tucson Studios”. The movie “Tombstone” and the television series “High Chaparral” and “Young Riders” have all been filmed here at Old Tucson Studios. As a matter of fact, more than 300 films, television episodes and commercials have used Old Tucson Studios as their backdrop.

In 1995, a devastating fire burned down the studio. Yet, after a lot of hard work the studio was up and in operation within two years. It is evident that after so many productions and more to come, Old Tucson Studios is the place to go, if you want to see what the west was like many years ago.

One of the unique aspects of Old Tucson Studios is that it always remains open, even during movie productions. This gives visitors a great chance to see the action behind the scenes. You can call in advance to see if Hollywood is using the set. There are so many attractions at Old Tucson Studios. The studio offers live entertainment, games, rides, shops, restaurants and a children’s play area. The entertainment is terrific.

There are gunfights, stunt demonstrations and Western musical revues. The half hour trail ride is another popular activity at Old Tucson Studios. Many visitors love to sample handmade taffy or enjoy a mesquite-grilled barbeque. An emporium filled with western clothes, movie memorabilia and western gifts is also located on the property.

Old Tucson Studios also uses sets as backdrops for banquets, meetings and events. The sets can hold from 50 to 5,000 people. If you are interested in more information on renting a stage, you can call 520-883-0100. Old Tucson is a great day trip for young and old alike. You can make your visit an enjoyable one by wearing comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. You will find that most of the activities are outside.
