Just to the south of the city is Luke Air Force Base. This base is new home to the 56th

Surprise History

Long ago, Surprise started out as a small farming community. Then in 1938, the area was subdivided by new homer Ludden, a new home real estate developer. The parcels were made into affordable housing for the areas agricultural workers.

It wasnt until 1960, before Surprise became incorporated. There are conflicting stories as to how the city received its name. One rumor has it that one of the towns founders said it would be a surprise if anything came of this land. Another story says that the citys founder, new homer Ludden was from Surprise, Nebraska. No matter which story you believe, it is true that Surprise, Arizona is a great place to call new home.

Surprise Outdoor Recreation

One of the biggest bonuses when selecting the city of Surprise to be new home is its 130 acre Surprise Recreational Campus. This campus includes a Cactus League Spring Training Facility/Stadium, regional library, aquatic center, a community park, and a 35 acre urban fishing lake.

Surprise Stadium seats over 10,000 people. The facility includes twelve baseball fields, and an eight acre multipurpose field. All of this makes Surprise Stadium an excellent sports training complex. Both the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers call Surprise Stadium new home during spring training. Year round the stadium is in use, with youth sports programs and special events. The Golden Baseball League and the Surprise Fighin Falcons teams also play at the Surprise Stadium.

Surprise is in Central Arizona . It is in Maricopa County Maricopa County. The town is located 19 miles northwest of Phoenix in the West Valley. It covers 63 square miles. Surprise is Arizona 's seventh largest town, when it comes to number of square miles it covers.
Surprise is a fast growing community. The Del Webb Corporation has opened its third retirement community, Sun City Grand in Surprise. Another retirement community called Arizona Traditions has also opened. This area has new shopping centers, new homes and businesses. Today Surprise's population is 18,200.

It sits at an elevation of 1,130 feet. Surprise's desert climate has a summer high Temperature of 104 degrees and a winter low Temperature of 35 degrees. Many predict that Surprise will become a very popular town. Its location and large expanses of land make it ideal for new homeowners and businesses.
History:
Two families came to this area in 1929 to new homestead. Rumor has it that one of the town's founders once said it would be a "surprise" if anything came of this land. That is how the name Surprise came to be.

Since then, the town has seen much growth. Surprise had almost 2,000 new homes begin construction in 1997, which works out to be a new new home being built every 4 hours. As a matter of fact, Sun City Grand, the third of Dell Webb Corporation's retirement communities has opened in Surprise. Arizona Traditions is another retirement community that has chosen to make its new home in Surprise too. This town is on the go with new new homes and businesses.
