The Mohave Indians known as the Pipa Aha Macave or "The People by the River"occupied this area long ago. It is believed that Spirit Mountain, which is located northwest of the Indian Lands today, were where the tribe originated. The Mohave were farmers living in villages. The fort was a military outpost established to control the Mohave Indians. A long-term lease for the development of a power plant, creation of a master planned community in Nevada, construction of several retail businesses, an R.V. Park and a golf course are all steps in the right direction. Indian Arts: The Fort Mohave Indians are known for their beadwork and basketry.
